Very worried about my glands!

Hi all, apologies for a bit of a ramble.

I'm on immunosuppressants for ulcerative colitis and they do cause me to get ill quite a lot.

about a month ago I got a sore throat and my neck glands became swollen. The throat cleared but the glands got much bigger. Then the glands in front of and behind my ears also swelled up and are huge, very hard and painful.

I have no other symptoms apart from a very painful lower back when I walk. No night sweats, fevers or weight loss.
blood tests all clear.

docs are a bit stumped. They did a CT scan of my neck today and said an MRI would be in a couple of weeks. However as soon as I got home from the scan the hospital called to book me in for an MRI in 3 days! So now I'm in a blind panic that there's something sinister as otherwise why would they scan me so quickly?!

has anyone had similar? I'm feeling sick with worry.

  • Hi Han_co and welcome to the forum.

I know it's tough, but try not to overthink this as there could be many reasons why your MRI was booked in so quickly, for example, there was a cancellation or the department are up-to-date with all their appointments.

As many of our members will tell you, being seen sooner means less time to worry so try to see this as a positive if you can. I'm sure our community will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,
