Confused

Hi,

So today I called hospital to see if my results had come in ( as I wasn't given a return date for results). When I called she said yes an appointment has been booked for 17th December. She said I'll have a look see if results are in, oh yes they are. I need to clarify with my colleague to understand them. I understand they are not medically trained however I have previously been given all clear results (mole) over the phone if positive. She come back on phone, with I'll see if someone can call you tomorrow to give you more information as I understand 17th is still a while away.  My mom had a very rare form of melanoma and it took them 6 weeks before they gave her the results. My friends who I've told are saying they'd call you straight back in if it was 'c' but I know that's not always true.  I'm scared I'm 36 with 2 young children and I'm trying not to worry and enjoy the run up to Christmas but so hard with this black cloud following me around

  • Hi KPWVOX,

I hope someone was able to get back to you with more information about your results but if they haven't, try to keep yourself busy and distracted until the 17th. I know that's easier said than done but it will help time to pass more quickly whilst you wait and hopefully some of our members will be along soon to help you through this challenging time as well.

I know I can't take the worry away but I will have my fingers crossed you receive good news in two weeks time.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph,

    Thank you for your reply

I had a call yesterday evening, from my consultant. 1 area is benign, the other was some sort a growth (behind my nipple)which they would like to remove, his pretty certain it's benign but he would rather it be removed and tested further. This is why I have an appointment booked o  17th to talk about the operation. I feel a weight has been lifted even though the thought of having surgery does scare me but I'll deal with that when it comes around.

  • I'm really pleased someone was able to get back to you Katie and your mind has been put at ease.

It's completely understandable, and natural, to be nervous about the operation but hopefully the appointment you have on the 17th will help allay some of your fears and help you feel more prepared.

If you have any questions before or after your appointment then you're welcome to have a chat with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Stpeh,

An update I had a call on the 3rd December an appointment cancellation so I was asked to come in and see the consultant. I went and I am booked in for surgery on the 21st Dec. They will be removing both areas (a wire will be inserted for the benign one as they can't feel lump) with regards to the growth he said its a papilloma which they are 95% sure its benign but there's still 5% chance its not but in his words 5 % is still a reason to remove and get further tests on it. I'm nervous about the operation but I'm hugely relieved that the odds are in my favour.
