First smear - high grade

Hello all,

I've read other peoples posts but thought I'd write my own experience.

I am 27 and had my first smear test booked at the end of March 2020. Unfortunutely lockdown happened ad my smear test was cancelled.Once the doctors starting completing face-to-face appointments again I finally had my smear test in September this year and it's come back as high grade dyskaryosis which had sever cell changes. I was told my appointment for Colposcopy would be in a matter of weeks and not waiting 4+months and they will also be taking a biopsy and completing a Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone (LLETZ) there and then at the appointment.

After reading up I can see normally you go for the Colposcopy and then they see if any further treatment is needed - should I be worried about how fast this is moving?

I am also currently undergoing blood tests due to feeling unwell. Fatigue, heart palputations, bruising easily and bruises that haven't gone away after 5 months (I know!) as well as other symptoms which have recently appeared.

I am probably thinking the worst but I can't help feeling it's all linked together in some way.

Just wanted people's honest thoughts about this siutation?

Many thanks :)

  • Hello Ellie757,

Try not to worry too much if you can  - even if your smear has come back as high grade dyskaryosis, this is very treatable and it's good that you won't have to wait too long for your colposcopy. There is information on our website on treatment for abnormal cervical cells which I hope will reassure you. I think it is great that they are moving so fast as it means it will all get done and dusted very quickly.

I am sorry to hear you are currently feeling unwell and undergoing blood tests. It's good that they are investigating this closely and I hope this gets sorted soon too.

I hope that you will hear from others here who have been in a similar situation before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

Best of luck for your treatment and I hope everything turns out fine for you.

    Best wishes,
