  • Hi Nicola. My wife was diagnosed with BC and is now 2 treatments in with EC chemo. She was advised to take until the beginning of Jan off, but I'm not sure if she'll last that long away from work.  Her chemo has been fine and dare I say it, almost bordering on normal. She's only had to use nausea tablets 3 times. The oncologist also said most women tolerate this.

I'm not saying chemo can't be rough, but those chemo stories you see on TV are best suited to how things were back in the 80's or even 90's when a lot of treatments were very, very harsh. Again, I'm not saying this is the case with every chemo, but some modern BC regimes are tolerated by some women.

This could get worse as the accumulative nature of the chemo takes hold, but yeah, she has been more than fine thus far. She finds the cold cap the worst part of it all and the constipation can be an issue too.  But that has stopped her losing her hair thus far too.

There are all different types of breast cancer.  Some treated very differently from the next, and staging matters too. So how things would affect you should the worse come to pass (the odds are greatly in your favour it won't), no one can say.

  • Hi guys, so I went to the breast clinic yesterday the consultant seen me did an examination felt breasts looked etc and decided that I didn't need any scans or anything and that it was all from weight loss but I lost a lot of weight over 10years ago I've kept most of it off so do have loose skin etc but I've seen my breasts like that for the last 10years obviously what I noticed was something different, she said she sees thousands of breasts unlike me & the dr that originally referred me do you think I should be concerned that I didn't get sent for any screening or just be happy I got the all clear I'm just abit undecided I'm really happy she thinks it's nothing to worry about but on the other hand I'm thinking what if it is and they've done nothing and just left me and it's too late when they do find it if it is there's no tenderness no lumps it was just one bit of my breast that looked lumped out on one bit but no lump there she said it was just that the breast tissue wasn't there in that breast as much as the other due to weight loss and having 3kids etc x

  • Hi Hun,

I think you can only go on what the Doctor has said, they see ladies day in day out. I think keep an eye on things and if you are still not sure check in with your Gp.

Gosh if I got that news I would be jumping for joy and getting on with my life. That's what you should do. Have a nice Christmas and New Year.

    Love Lots x

  • Thank you so much I am really relieved and I'm sorry you didn't get the news you wanted. I hope you make a full recovery wish you all the best for the future thank you so much for you help. Hope you have a great Xmas and new year too x

  • Hi I completely understand your concerns. Your best off keeping a real good eye on things and if you notice anymore change get yourself back to your GP.
I found a lump back in July and was fast tracked to breast clinic where I had a mammogram followed by an ultrasound. They said it was dense tissue and nothing to worry about due to my age. I was 36 but just turned 37. Fast forward a few months and the lump was getting bigger so I went back to gp late October to be sent back to hospital. I had another ultrasound which showed a real difference from the one in July. I waited for an MRI appointment which I had last week. They called the next day to get me back in and told me everything was looking like it was breast cancer. Bloods, biopsy and CT scan all confirmed it and I was diagnosed yesterday. It's been caught early enough and has gone in to my lymph nodes too but they are confident I can make a full recovery and probably gonna be starting chemo just before Xmas.
So make sure you keep checking just to be on the safe side! X

  • Hi Kelly,

I am 38, I start Chemo after Christmas, hasn't really sunk in yet. I hope your get on okay, thinking of you x

  • Hi hun,

I definitely think as Kelly Said keep an eye on things. You know your own body and if you are still not happy go back again and ask for some Scans.

Thankyou for your kind words. I am okay I start Chemo after Christmas.

    much love xx

  • Hi Kelly, so sorry to hear about your news, I'm really worried now that they might have got it wrong I don't habe a lump or anything so going to keep a close eye on it see if I notice any change I just don't want it too be too late if I have got it and not be able to be treated obviously every mothers worse nightmare is leaving their children I'm not ready for that scares me I really hope you make a full recovery and wish you all the luck with your chemo thank you for your comment means a lot I will be sure to keep a close eye on it and if any change get straight back in. I can't believe they've kept you from October till now to diagnose you how you've managed to stay sane I'll never know I got fast tracked and the 2 week I was waiting was the longest 2 week of my life x
