HPV HIGH GRADE (moderate) DYSKARYOSIS

I'm so full of fear right now I had a smear test 6 weeks ago, I never received my results but on Thursday evening I receive an email to say an appointment had been made for the colposcopy clinic for Tuesday. I just could help thinking the worst. I managed to get through to the colposcopy department and they had a nurse call me back to explain my results, she said I had tested positive for hpv an high grade moderate dyskaryosis. She explained I will go to my appointment have a chat, they will have a look and decide the best course of treatment. Right now in my head it's already gone too far and turned cancerous. I had a normal smear test 3.5 years ago. Can anyone share there experiences good or bad so I know what to expect.

  • Its been 7 weeks since I had my biopsy, I still hadn't received my results. I've rang back a few times the past couple of weeks to see if they have the results. Finally today they said they had had them and a letter has been sent out. She read the letter out over the phone and basically said my biopsy results don't match my colposcopy so it's being sent to be discussed in a meeting on the 27th Jan. I can't help but worry now, I have rang them again and asked for a nurse to call me back to discuss my results with me as the letter didn't actually say What the biopsy results mean just that they didn't match. I'm expecting to have to have treatment as the lady who did the colposcopy at the time said it was only showing low grade diskayosis where as my smear was showing high.

  • Oh no so more waiting and worrying! I have heard of this happening a few times and it's usually just because they find different results, I was talking to someone not long ago who had said something similar, smear showed low grade/borderline changes yet the colposcopy showed high grade. She said it had been sent to the multi disciplinary team (I think I've got that right!) to discuss the best treatment which was a lletz. I don't think it's uncommon for them to do this when there's discrepancies between results. I hope you get your answers soon! And you aren't waiting long for a call back xx

  • Hiya hope you're recovering well from the lletz?

I received my results and was so relieved I cried. CIN ll was found and all removed so just my test of cure smear in 6 months. So for now I'm a lot less anxious and feel a weight has been lifted. Xx

  • Oh that's great news Daisy, I'm so pleased it has been treated and you have the results. I'm fine, no bleeding but some odd black flecks coming out over the last few days. The nurse did warn me it may happen so hopefully it's normal and I'm just healing. [@emilypx]‍ I hope you are doing okay, rubbish that you have to wait again x

  • Thank you! They called me back and explained everything. So basically when I had my smear it showed hpv and high grade moderate dyskaryosis, then the colposcopy actually showed low grade, however the biopsy results only show hpv and no abormal cells. So they are having a meeting do discuss what the best this to do is, that could be just wait a year and have another smear or go ahead with treatment anyway as a precaution because there was clearly abnormal cells in the first place. But at least I don't have to worry now. With them satin at the colposcopy it was actually low grade I just straight away expected it to have been worse!

  • That's good I'm pleased it's been explained to you and you don't need to be worried. The waiting for this sort of thing is awful isn't it, our minds go into overdrive! Xx

  • Hi,

I'm in very similar position at the moment, my tests were all clear no HPV around 4 years ago, then December 2021 I went for a smear and it showed HPV positive and low grade dyskaryosis, I've had a colposcopy and they said it looks fine and I should do another test within 12 months. I since then went to see gynecologist last month who said a cervix looks fine and healthy. I had a smear test a few days before that and my results just came back saying it's now high grade severe dyskaryosis and in most cases it's a not a cancer yet but they need to investigate it. How it progressed so fast in a matter of just 12 months is shocking to me..
