Digestive issues

Hello everyone,

For the last few month my stool had been a bit inconsistent, sometimes it looks healthy and normal, other times it looks soft and flat on one side. I also have been rarely getting a slight dull sensation in my lower stomach and a sharp pain which can happen all of a sudden all over my stomach and last for a few seconds, these stabbing pains are really rare and the dull ones only happen once every few days. I have also have had a sharp pain at my anus opening which has maybe happened 3 times at most. Along with this I have had an itchy anus for years which I thought I should mention.

I am a 22 year old male, my doctor has asked me to do a FIT test, feacal calprotectin test, blood and and he wants to examine my anus and feel around my stomach.

Had anyone else had an experience like this? I'm just worrying while all of this is happening. I'm also really scared of blood tests which makes it worse.

Thanks everyone!

  • Hi hope you are ok! I am in a  similar position to you except have been experiencing some bleeding too, and I am in my 30s! I am due to repeat my Calprotectin test soon, I had an abnormal one a few weeks ago and it sent me into a spin of anxiety so I know how you just be feeling it's so hard isn't it! Hope you get some answers soon! X

  • Hello, I hope you are doing well. Thanks for replying, I sent of my tests on Monday and am still waiting for my results, which should hopefully come by the end of next week. I am also due a blood test on the 10th which I am worried about since I fainted on my last one -_-. It will be alright anyway. How are you keeping? Waiting is so stressful, take care!:)

  • Me too, just waiting for results now.
that's so strange I fainted too- I think it was the anxiety of everything going on rather than the actual blood test itself!!

hope you are ok and get some answers soon! Keep

    in touch x

  • Hi again, I have received me results. My FIT test came back high with a reading of 40ug and my calprotecin came back high also with a reading of 160. I am now panicking as I have a 2 week referral. I will keep you updated on whatever happens. Take care always!

  • Hope you are ok! Fingers crossed your appointment comes in soon and you can be reassured! I guess age is on your side and it's something as simple as piles. The doctor told me in terms of calprotectin it could be anything  and it does not mean the worst. And I've read online that the fit tests can even detect blood from the mouth eg bleeding gums! X

  • To be fair I was taking ibuprofen about 4 days leading up to the test which my gp said can cause bleeding, I also was at a birthday party 2 days before and drank more beer than I should have which could have made my calprotecin high. I also get a sore nose in the winter which does sometimes have blood when I blow my nose so that could have affected the results maybe. I'm just hoping my bloods come back fine, which I have to do on Friday. I'm still waiting for the date of my referral which I believe will be a colonoscopy, I'm just hoping if I opt out of sedation I won't need an iv, that scares me more than I blood test. I'm fine with needles I've had no problems with my vaccines, I just have a phobia of needles in veins. How have you been doing? Have you had any updates yet?
