Old and scared

This all started about 12 yars ago. I was getting very low back pain, then I had little bits of vaginal bleeding. It's continued for all this time. The last month I started having hip pain, really sore, it spread across my back. That went and left me with a really heavy aching stomach, which doesn't hurt when I'm standing up, worse when I'm in bed at night. Oddly no pain at all when I wake up. 
I know I have ovarian cancer that has more than likely metastised into carcinomatosis. 
I just can't pluck up the courage to go to the GP (who I don't know)

Can anyone suggest how I pluck up the courage? 
I'm terrified of hospital as I used to be a nurse and know what goes on. 
I'm 67 btw. 

  • Welcome to the forum Cobcottage although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

    Many of our members know how scary it can be to go to the GP when experiencing unusual or worrying symptoms so you're not alone in feeling this way and hopefully some of them will pop by soon to offer their suggestions and advice.

    Talking to a doctor, especially one you're not familiar, isn’t easy but they are there to help, and will want to know if something doesn’t look or feel quite right. I hope the tips and advice given in this article will help you muster up the courage to book an appointment but if you feel you can't do it, maybe you could ask a close family member or friend to help?

    We also have a team of nurses available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to talk things through with them first. They're very friendly and supportive and will do all they can to help.

    Oh you poor thing. 
    I hate the Dr and hospital too. But you know nothing for sure until you have had tests and are told a diagnosis. 
    Your mind is certainly doing a number on you and making you believe the worst case scenario. 
    I firmly believe it is better to know and make mindful, knowledgable decisions than it is to second guess and live in limbo. 
    I wish you all the luck in the world. Take a supporter to the GP and to subsequent appointments. Let us know how you get on xx
