Bowel cancer?

Hi,

a recent hip MRI showed an incendental finding of a 4.2 cm cystic mass in the rectosigmoid region, which my new Gastroenterologist (referred for other things) said with a concerned tone of voice, is very unusual (in that area). I have had 5 pelvic ultrasounds in my life, the last one about 10 months ago, and they have never found a mass there... So it concerns me, as I've also read that nearly all cystic like masses in that region are there at birth (duplication cysts).

I've been referred for a rectal MRI (have not got the date yet), and it's only when I spoke to the Gastroenterologist and heard/felt her concern about it, that I started to get really worried about it! I'm trying not to get too ahead of things, the main thing that concerns me if it was cancer is the treatment, as I don't know if my body can handle it as I have chronic illnesses. But I want to be positive whatever happens!

  • Hello NatSophiaC

I'm sorry to hear that a recent MRI has flagged up another area of concern. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what this may be and what may happen next. I know that many of our members here will agree that waiting for tests and results can be a really difficult time and it's natural to be anxious. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face but typically most people feel much less worried once they have information and know what they are dealing with.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for the MRI. In the meantime, try to take things a day at a time and avoid searching Google for information if you can. This rarely gives accurate answers but often leaves people feeling even more concerned. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I do hope you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi jenn,

thank you, it makes a difference to feel some support, I might phone the helpline.

The date of the rectal MRI is December 30th, so not long to wait now, though it was supposed to be a 2 week wait.

I'm trying to leave Google alone!

    Kind regards,

    Natalie
