HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis

Hi Guys

I have just received a letter confirming I have HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis. I am going for a colposcopy. I was just wondering how the procedure was etc...

I am also worried sick, I have lower abdominal pain and I think a UTI, not diagnosed. I had excruciating pain a few weeks ago after sex, but I just had put that down to having the coil fitted a couple of months back.

But you google these things and it's terrifying, I know you shouldn't google but it's natural!!!

Any words of wisdom or advice would be much appreciated

  • Hi everyone not used this before so not sure if tagging onto this post is ok?

    it's 2am and I'm worried sick.

bit of background info, I'm 42, and at age 21 I had an abnormal smear and colcoscopy. Now I don't know if this is normal because my parents paid privately but I remember it being a Friday night and i had just finished a part time shift at my job and the consultant rang me to say I needed to come in first thing on the Saturday morning for a loop procedure as my changes were either 2/3 or 3/4 can't remember which. After that I had yearly smears for 10 years (I think) and all was fine.
fast forward to this time last year and I had my regular smear and was told I have HPV. Spoke with my GP who assured me that it would clear up before my next smear 12 months later. Had that follow up smear a couple of weeks ago, and just my luck the HPV hasn't cleared and I also have low grade d something and need a colposcopy. I'm worried sick, I'm a real worrier anyway, but I'm convinced that because this is the second time, I'm going to get the big C.
Has anyone else has this happen more than once?
I've recently had an operation (unrelated) and have been off work for 2 weeks. I'm due back tomorrow but I don't think I can, I don't think I'll sleep a wink worrying and wondering how long it will take for my appointment etc. I can't go private this time unfortunately ️
sorry if I'm totally pathetic but I'm just convinced this is it for me and I'm going to end up with it.

    thank you x

  • Hi hun,

Just to let you know that I've been to the clinic, see the consultant explains what they will doing saying it's not cancer!  Was totally relaxed didn't even felt anything & did not do a biopsy saying my cervix are fine. I need to go back to do a swear test in 12 months time if I still have HPV but I hope it will be gone then. I am quite relieved x

  • Hi all,

ive just had my first smear results back as HPV positive and abnormal cells low grade dyskaryosis. I need to have a colposcopy and I am worried sick.

how long did you have to wait for your appointment to come through?

    thank you x

  • Hi hun,

I've waited about 4/5 weeks I think but had to cancel it due to Covid-19. I am fully recovered now.

Awww please don't worried hun, I had the same results as you. You will be fine all they do is the consultant will explain all the procedures. You haven't got cancer hunni. Xx

  • Hi all,

I have just had my results back from my first ever smear (I am 25) and they have come back as postive HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis, I have been invited for a colposcopy and I am worried sick!

I was worried to go and have my smear but this has now worried me even more!

    Thanks all! X

  • Hi hunni. Awww please don't worried hun, I had the exact  results as you. I was worried sick too, honestly you will be fine. You haven't got cancer hunni. Xx

  • I'm in the exact same boat, got home from work today to the same letter and I'm worried sick!

  • Hi, I was wondering what your outcome was after your appointment? I've just received the same letter and feeling terrible about it x

  • I've had the same letter, have you had your appointment yet x

  • Hello,

I've just had the same letter stating positive HPV and low grade dyskaryosis. Current appointment waiting time where I am is 4 months! The last smear test I had three years ago was clear but I know since then they've changed the tests and now firstly test for HPV hence the upsurge I imagine in lots of women now finding out they've got HPV.

I suppose what I worry about is as I've been in a relationship for 7 years, should we now use condoms to assist in getting rid of the HPV? Given it sounds like the chances are that my partner probably has it too if I do, if we don't use condoms now, is there a chance that the virus will keep going back and forth between us? Wondered if the chances of it clearing are higher if you use condoms or does it not matter?

Seems to be a topic that there is much misinformation online about and worst case scenarios as others on here have said.

    Many thanks!
