HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis

Hi Guys

I have just received a letter confirming I have HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis. I am going for a colposcopy. I was just wondering how the procedure was etc...

I am also worried sick, I have lower abdominal pain and I think a UTI, not diagnosed. I had excruciating pain a few weeks ago after sex, but I just had put that down to having the coil fitted a couple of months back.

But you google these things and it's terrifying, I know you shouldn't google but it's natural!!!

Any words of wisdom or advice would be much appreciated

Charlotte

  • Hi ,

I received the same letter. I have regular smears, all good. Last year I was hpv positive no cell change , this years call back done 8th September still hpv positive with low grade dyskaryosis and colposcopy booked for 14th October. I'm really worried even though this chat hs helped so much. All help is much appreciated xx

  • Hi. Can I ask how long after the biopsy before you got the results? It's been almost 4 weeks no. I know the saying is no news is good news but with my gynae history no news tends to be bad news

  • Hi I had a colposcopy I didn't need a biopsy and they said all was ok there and then, but I have had a biopsy previously for a breast lump and the result took 2 weeks. I know until you hear all ok you will worry we all do, its awful waiting to hear, but usually they contact quickly if they find anything so I'm thinking 4 weeks is a long time, have you tried to chase up your results?

  • The same happened to me and I think now they do the hpv screening lots of us are getting recalls. To be honest I was so scared of the colposcopy I told myself I couldn't do it, but I took 2 painkillers an hour before and I didn't feel any pain. The nurses and consultant were brilliant and I just go into chat about any old rubbish mode while they are doing the procedure to distract from it. Thankfully they told me there and then they couldn't see anything suspicious and its just back to regular smears for me. Its a massive relief when they tell you all ok and I hope you get the same result. Most of us do, but its best they check. Please don't worry about the procedure I can honestly say its nothing terrible. Good luck fingers crossed for you.

  • I plan to on Monday if i can find a phone number. I am dreading what the results wil be... Thry said low grade there and then but took a biopsy just to be safe

  • Hopefully all ok. I hope you get to speak to someone on Monday who can put your mind at rest

  • Hello,

I have just been reading through some of the questions and comments on this page. When you have put about the letter saying not cancer. I was just wondering whether your letter actually told you it wasn't or whether it said in most cases it's not cancer.
I am totally stressing myself out over this result just looking through and noticed your comment I just wanted to check if my letter was the same. I hope you don't mind. Thank you x

  • Hi Charlotte,

HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis Is incredibly common. Try not to worry, a colposcopy is just just ensure you don't need any treatment to prevent issues in the future.

I had the same diagnosis, along with spotting and pain. The pain and spotting can be caused by many things. Mine happened to be ectropion. The coil can also cause pain. Worry and stress can also make these symptoms worse!

    all the best,

    Rachel
