HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis

Hi Guys

I have just received a letter confirming I have HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis. I am going for a colposcopy. I was just wondering how the procedure was etc...

I am also worried sick, I have lower abdominal pain and I think a UTI, not diagnosed. I had excruciating pain a few weeks ago after sex, but I just had put that down to having the coil fitted a couple of months back.

But you google these things and it's terrifying, I know you shouldn't google but it's natural!!!

Any words of wisdom or advice would be much appreciated

  • Hello, I was told I had severe grade and had a colposcopy three weeks ago. I also went on Google and couldn't stop reading ! I scared myself silly. They have found low grade and this is a positive as much as this may not seem like it at the moment. They did explain to me if they find grade 2/3 an invite is given for a colposcopy. They are able to check and make sure no further treatment is needed and you'll be under great care.

my experience - When I  arrived nurses were very professional and reassuring. They put a liquid in to the cervix but they tell you when they do it ( stung a little but only when I sat up ). She did ask me if I wanted to look at the camera but that wasn't for me !  The nurse was finished in about 5-10 minutes and told me I needed to have Lletz and she would be able to carry out the treatment there and then but I didn't feel prepared and I didn't want to have this procedure done awake, again they were very reassuring and understood. I was booked in a few days later and I had the Lletz treatment carried out under general on the 5/11/2021. Just waiting for results ! You will be ok when you have your colposcopy it's not as bad as a smear and I find them very uncomfortable. Hope it goes well for you xx

  • Hi,

I've received a letter exactly the same as yours. The nurse who did my smear phoned me and was very positive saying that low grade is almost always nothing to worry about. My colposcopy appointment isn't until January so can't completely relax over Christmas. Have you got your appointment yet? I did feel better after I spoke with the nurse she was very upbeat saying its very common to get this result. You could have a chat with your doctor or nurse see if that helps reassure you any.

  • Hi,

I have just recived this same result today ive had 2 previous results of hpv with no abnormal cells and jave been having yearly smears so this is my 2nd yearly smear waited 4 weeks for results and its says i still have hpv and chances to some of the cells called low grade dyskakaruosis and i will need a colposcopy waiting for a letter.

Iam a big worrier and suffer with anxiety so cant help thinking the worse.

  • Hey

Have you had your appointment yet, I've recieved this same letter and have mine on Friday. Also may I ask have you had the vaccines?

  • Hey, I've just had the same letter advising hpv and low grade dyskakaruosis, I'm just waiting for my next appointment. I also have had 2 vaccines plus the booster.

  • Hi,

Have you had your appointment letter yet? The waiting is awful isnt it. My colposcopy is this Thursday and I've been ok until last couple of days, but now I'm starting to panic. I feel I darent book or plan anything for after Thursday in case its bad news. I wish we didn't have to wait so long for tests and results its so stressful. I hope you get your appointment soon and hopefully they can put your mind at rest from that.

  • Hi hun,

I goy my appointment letter the next day its not untill 25th jan it did state in bold that this is not cancer and just chages to some of the cells and they need to check to see if i need treatment  also my nurse called me to make sure i understand it all and she also said its not cancer its just mild changes so im trying not to worry to much will be glad when ive been and no for sure tho im also worries as this was my 3rd hpv result so its been 2 years now for that also but i spose the whole point of the smear is to find these changes and treat them before they turn into anything. Hope yours gos well on thursday let me know hownit gos and try not to worry my nurse did say to me its the lowest changes im the same ive booke a few days off work just incase good luck hun xx

  • Thankyou. I will let you know how Thursday goes. Yeah its a good thing that they can spot any changes early and treat them. I know they say it won't be the dreaded C word or at least highly unlikely, but you always think what if until you get definite all ok dont you. I had a breast cancer scare a few years ago thankfully that turned out to be ok. Think keeping as busy as possible helps too. Will keep in touch. Hope we both get good news.

  • Yeah we always think the worst  dont we mo matter what the letter or the nurses say ,but im trying to stay postive as  its saying mild  low grade changes and my previous two yearly smears where both normal  i think having hpv scares me tho, have you been having yearly smears aswel? And yes im sure you will be fine thursday

  • Hi just back from my colposcopy and wanted to let you know that the procedure is nothing to worry about. The colposcopist was so nice and the nurses were brilliant. It didn't feel any different to a smear. I didn't feel any stinging when they put the dye in. She took a biopsy and they said I would feel like a nip sensation but to be honest I didn't feel anything. I took 2 painkillers an hour before as they suggest so that might be why. They reckon its CIN1 and if the biopsy confirms that be a smear in 12 months to keep an eye on things. She told me twice nothing to worry about regarding cancer and said women who come for smears and follow ups are highly unlikely to get cervical cancer its the ones who don't have check ups that are at higher risk. So we are doing the right think. No gym or hot tub for a few days and I cant do any lifting at work but I don't mind just relieved its over. I have a dull ache very similar to period pain but its very mild. Hope my message has reassured you a little. Let me know how you get on. Good luck x
