Lletz very painful

Hey

Last week i got my first abnormal smear results. HPV positive and "high grade (severe) dyskaryosis".

Today i went in for a colposcopy and was told that it was likely that i would also have a Lletz under local anaesthetic. After the colposcopy exam the doctor confirmed the need for the Lletz.

After reading other posts on here i see why the doctor made the call he did for what happened next.

The smear hurt, insertion of the speculum hurt, the examination hurt, the start of the prep for the Lletz was agony. The doctor stopped once but i encouraged him to continue just to get it over with, he then stopped again and asked me to get dressed and go back into the consult room. He explained that for what he had done (very little) i should not have felt more than a mild discomfort and now i will need to go back and be put under general anaesthetic to have the procedure. They want to do this within the next week.
After reading other experiences on here i'm becoming more worried as i actually have a very high pain threshold.

What i initially wanted to ask is "has anyone else experienced something like this and how long after did you feel well enough to exercise?" I ask this as i'm a self-employed dog walker doing 3-4 energetic walks a day and need to let my customers know how long i will be off.
Sorry not really the point but knowing and being prepared will give me one less thing to worry about.

What i now want to ask is "is this level of pain normal?" "Is this rush for appointments just good service or because they are worried?"

  • Hello Lbash,

The time needed for recovery can vary from person to person, but don't be afraid to speak to your doctor about these concerns, as they'll be best to advise you. If you'd like to read more about treatment for abnormal cells, you can here.

    Best wishes,

  • I would love to speak to my doctor but unfortunately it takes about an hour of trying to ring to get in the queue to speak to the receptionist, that queue then takes about 40-50mins on hold. I'm fine with the triage system but getting to that stage is rarely possible for someone that has to work. This is also the reason i was late getting my initail smear and now left in the position i'm in
