Prostate biopsy

Hi

My PSA readings have been higher than normal for some time now - September 2020 6.28, May 2021 5.71, Oct 2021 11.6. Have had a MRI scan 2 weeks ago which showed no lesions anywhere and graded by the consultant radiologist as highly unlikely to be cancer however BPH changes were noticeable.

The only thing that the radiologist noted was a PSA density of 0.21, and my urologist has recommended a biopsy solely due to this.

I was thinking that before rushing into the biopsy it would be good to repeat the PSA blood test first. Please can I have anyone's thoughts on this, thanks.

  • Hello Newb64 and welcome to the forum.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but do be sure to discuss your options with your medical team if you have any concerns about the biopsy that's been suggested.

You could also try getting a second opinion from a different doctor but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then you're welcome to get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps and all goes well moving forward.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph

Many thanks, getting a second opinion is good advice.  I have just had my PSA re-checked and it is now down to 8.05 from 11.5 so I hope that it can continue this way.  I have put the biopsy on hold for now as I would like my PSA checked in a further month before having it.

    Regards.
