Thickened womb lining..2 week urgent referral.

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time posting so not sure if im writing in the correct place, but  i was after some advice.

Ive recently had a scan which showed the lining of my womb thicker than it should be. Ive had abnormal Bleeding, Tiredness and pains in my lower abdomen period, sharp, dull etc a cocktail of different pains (not the kind of cocktail i would of liked to have lol) so my GP sent for an urgent 2 week referral on suspected endometrial cancer.

I rung the booking centre to make sure they had my correct address as ive recently moved (which they do) but they have said ill be waiting roughly 16weeks to be seen by a specialist. It was my understanding that the Gp said 2 weeks.

Im 32 and a mother of 5 and so so worried. My husband has been great but i can see its worrying him aswell. Ive had bad cervical cells 3 times over the past 10 years also..one lletz procedure and yearly smears for 10 years. (not sure this is relevent but i would rather include just incase)

My question is is 16 weeks average wait or are most people seen within the two weeks? Also how can i stop my anxiety from rising everytime i think about it. its constantly at the moment? Im so sorry for the long post but one more question, has anyone got any advice on helping the pain im in, paracetemol and ipbrufen isnt working as well as they were a few weeks back.

sorry for the essay post, but any help or advice would be greatfully appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Hi I had this (thickening of the womb) I was just sent for more scans nothing invasive. After a few more tests they found some endometriosis which I've had an op for but for the thickening of the womb they said nothing to worry about as it happens sometimes. I'm 35 and i was told this about 3/4 years ago and there have been nothing else happen to cause concern. I'm sure all is okay but understand your worry x

  • Hi willow.

I'm in a similar position to you. I've been bleeding for over 3 months. Started off light, but for the last 5ish weeks it's been proper bleeding (Sorry tmi). I've had swabs, bloods & a scan. I was first referred to gynaecology & my appointment came through for March! I said I wasn't carrying on like this for another 5 months, gp agreed and it was brought forward to December. I then got my scan results Friday & Dr said my lining is thick considering I'm bleeding, so has decided to put me on the 2 week pathway. I've had letter which says if I don't receive an appt by the 23rd to ring up.

I would speak to your gp to question it, if he/she wants you seen in the 2 weeks, then it should be 2 weeks.

    Keep me posted.

    Becky xx
