Concerned about lymphoma - anxiety very high :-(

Hiya everyone.

I'm a 38 yr old female, and I recently discovered a small raised gland behind my ear. it came up suddenly without any reason and has failed to go back down. I've had blood tests which didn't reveal anything suspect. I can't feel any other glands elsewhere but as it's only small, it's possible I do have others. I am on the two week pathway to have it checked out at hospital by a consultant.

My dad had non-hodgkkns lymphoma which started with a  raised gland in his neck so of course I am very scared. In the last couple of weeks I have also started to experience a nagging pain in my lower left abdomen but it's hard to know if this is connected or anxiety.

I have convinced myself I have a lymphoma which has spread to my abdomen. I'm finding it so hard to be rational right now. I'm not eating or sleeping properly.

I guess I'm looking for tips to deal with the anxiety that comes whilst waiting for tests, or to hear from anyone who has a similar experience. I currently have covid so I am just sat here at home driving myself slowly crazy and it's so distressing :-(

  • Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear of the worries you're experiencing - I can understand that the waiting is difficult. I know it's often much easier said than done, but try not to assume anything at this point. Try your best to sit tight until you have the necessary tests and results and then you'll know more - I know the uncertainty must be tough.

While waiting it can help to keep busy to help keep your mind off things. Take things a day at a time and hopefully it won't be too long to wait until your appointment.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • UPDATE: by the time I had the ultrasound, one of the nodes had gone down. The other one was considered tiny and just a normal reactive gland.
