Awaiting colonoscopy after sigmoidoscopy, any advice?

Hello, I have had abdominal pains (left side), constant fatigue and blood in my stool for about 5-6 months now. Q-fit test was done a few weeks ago and showed a result of 51 (which the doctor said was quite high?), bloods show slight iron deficiency but my calprotectin test came back normal.

My doctor referred me for an urgent scope and this morning I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy. I really struggled with it, cried my way through the procedure, it was very painful for me they didn't find anything during this and said because they were concerned about the positive fit test, I now need a full colonoscopy with sedation. 

Has anyone else experienced this? I feel embarrassed about being so upset during the flexi test today but also even more worried that I'm no further forward after it. 

Also, the pain in my stomach is really bad following today's procedure, enough to make me double up in pain. Any tips on easing? 

Just looking for anyone who has experienced similar or is going through the same/a hand hold.

    Hello babachic, 

    I am sorry to hear that you experienced so much pain after the flexible sigmoidoscopy. Don't feel embarrassed about being so upset during the sigmoidoscopy and well done for getting through it. I hope that the full colonoscopy with sedation will go well. 

    If the pain in your stomach is really bad after the procedure and you are doubling up in pain, I think it would be worth giving your GP a call and explaining that you experienced a lot of pain after the procedure. I am sure that they will be able to help and advise you further on this. I hope that the pain is settling down now and that you are feeling a little better. 

    I hope that you will meet others on the forum who have experienced something like this and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Hi, I had a long reply wrote out and then pressed the wrong button! :cry:

    I just wanted to acknowledge you, and please don't worry about your reaction to the sigmoidoscopy; I've not had one but I am sure it is not an easy procedure to go through, and that they have a similar experience with many patients. 

    I don't have any advice to offer, I'm due to have a colonoscopy myself next week. Not looking forward to it (of course lol) and trying my best to keep the worry at bay. I hope your colonoscopy with sedation goes better for you, and that you get a positive result.
