Worried about nothing. I hope so.

Hi all

Been having problems swallowing foods, had a barium swallow which came back with something to do with flux. I suffer from acid reflux. Have done blood tests and these came back clear, aside from Vit D ( I work nights ). Had a fit stool test and something came back so are going for a gastrocopy soon. My doctor says it is either anxiety globus or GORD and that the scope is just to rule out anything more serious. Sadly I do not feel reassured or are worried my doctor is protecting me from bad news. He says he is nearly sure it is not anything cancerish. I am thinking that a blood test would have shown up something more negative and that I could be causing myself more stress. I am going through a anxious time due to the fallout of lockdown. Not really had a reason to consult hospitals for a very long time so just find it daunting.

Thanks for reading.

  • Hello worrieddude,

Welcome to our forum! I think you can have faith in your doctor when they say that the gastroscopy is only to rule out something more serious and it's good that they are being thorough. It's reassuring that your blood tests have come back clear so try and just take one day at a time while you are waiting for your appointment and to remember what the doctor told you - they would not have said that to protect you that's for sure but they gave you their expert and honest opinion.

It's normal that you are feeling anxious though and as you say after the lockdown and everything it's not surprising that you feel this way. Try and keep calm though about all this and to take one day at a time if you can avoiding looking anything up online as this will only exacerbate your anxiety.

There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that the gastroscopy shows nothing of concern,

    Best wishes,
