M5 Mammogram Score

I found a lump in my right breast a few weeks ago. Wasn't overly worried - I've had 3 fibroidadenomas removed years ago and very much expected this to be the same. Had mammogram and ultrasound done followed by a few biopsies. Following this the doctor took me in a room and said the results were "very worrying" calcifications were present on the mammogram and also the size of the lump actually showed up differently on both (measuring 36mm on ultrasound and 70 mm on mammogram?!) Anyway I left v worried.

I've sine received a copy of my clinical notes and my mammogram has been rated M5. The ultrasound doesn't seem to have a rating at all. Is this defintley cancer or is there a chance it's not? How often are mammogram results wrong? I do get my biopsy results on Thursday which I know isn't overly far away but honestly feels like forever at the moment!

  • As I noticed your post hasn't received a reply I wanted to stop by to say hello, 3beforeme.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, it's easy to understand why you're left worried.

Unfortunately, we're not able to tell you what your mammogram score means, but since you're concerned it may be best to talk things through with the medical team that performed your mammogram as they'd be able to answer your questions.

Until then, if you'd like to have a chat with our cancer nurses about this and ask general questions, they're available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

  • Hi there - I was reading your story and it feels very similar to mine. I have just received an M5 classification. I am calling the Support Team now and will let you know if I have any further insights. stay positive..x

  • Hi KJ1964,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry that you have received this classification, without any explanation. I am not a doctor, just someone who has had breast cancer. I understand that this is suggestive of a malignancy. Have you been contacted for any further tests. It is likely that you may have a biopsy, to determine whether or not there is any cancer present. Did you manage to get in touch with your support team this afternoon? Hopefully, they have been able to give you further clarification.

Although I know how worrying this is, try not to panic. Cancer treatments have come a long way in recent years. I have had 2 bouts, but that was all 14 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
