MDT Meeting after Breast Biopsies

Hi,

I have been waiting for my biopsy results for almost 3 weeks and feel really anxious. I have a cyst they are not sure about and asymmetry and was told at the one stop clinic it's 50/50 if I can Cancer or not. I had mammograms done, an ultrasound, punch biopsies (possibly 4) and a marker left inside my breast. I'm in my 30s.

The MDT meeting is taking place tomorrow and I just feel sick with worry that I can't cope with it. Its like all the worry is building up inside. I am trying to keep busy and stay strong for my son as I am a single Mum but worry I can't cope if I receive bad news.

How long do you have to wait from when the MDT meeting takes place until you receive your results? Feeling sick with worry now the wait is almost over.

Any advice how you handle this is welcome thank you x

  • Hi KB18,

I'm sorry you haven't received a reply to your post up to now. I'm not sure if you have now heard back since the meeting, but if not then I should imagine it won't be too much longer. It's hard to say how to long to expect to wait as it can vary. I can imagine the uncertainty must be very difficult so I do hope you find out more soon.

Whatever happens, we are always here for support if ever you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Ben,

Thank you for your replying. I am still waiting to hear and feel extremely anxious. I don't know if it works differently up here in Scotland than England.

I know my case was discussed at an MDT meeting yesterday. I only have contact details for the Breast Consultant Secretary and she advised I would receive information via a letter. This has further increased my anxiety.

I am not sure if they can communicate my biopsy and scans result this way or if it will be a letter to invite me back in to meet with a Consultant.

Any thoughs on this are much appreciated. The wait is torture.

    Thank you

  • Hi KB18,

You would usually receive results in person, so it may be that a further appointment is required, but I can't say for sure. It may be helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses - they may be better placed to advise. If you would like to do this, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
