Vaginal bleeding after bowel movement

Morning all, I came across a few (old) posts about this symptom whilst doing a Google search but wondered if there was anyone who had recent similar experience.

For the past 2 months I'm passing bright red blood from my vagina every time I open my bowels. Once I've been, it tends to bleed all day but not always heavy enough that I need to wear a tampon. It's definitely not from my bowels as I've checked.

I have yearly colposcopy because I had squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix 8 years ago, and my cervix is all fine with no source of bleeding.

I had a transvaginal & pelvic ultrasound scan last week which I'm waiting for results from.

My GP thinks it might just be "one of those things" related to hormones but I'm only 34 and have been on the contraceptive pill for years now with no issue.

I'm just at a loss as to why this might be happening & looking for anyone with shared experience - I'm not really sure where to go if they come back and say my ultrasound is normal.

Thank you!

  • Hello Suzie and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry for the worry this is causing but hopefully it won't be long until your scan results come back and you're able to get some answers.

I'm sure some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime I hope this article I've found on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your nerves at bay until you find out more.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k Suzie.

    All the best,
