leukemia?

hi everybody.

i have been sick for 2 years. my first symptoms were hip pain which turned overnight to stomach pain. this stomach pain was investigated as it was leaving me bed-bound. nothing was found despite lots of blood work and scans. about a year ago, i started developing lower back pain, which i thought was due to my scoliosis, but i was referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who didn't think there was anything to worry about. over the last couple of months, i have been experiencing widespread bone and muscle pain (spasms and aches usually). the back pain is very bad and it makes bending down and doing any type of exercise very difficult. i am also experiencing leg weakness, which makes me feel very unsteady. i have quickly become really fatigued which means i struggle to do pretty much anything. all i want to do is sleep. i am slowly losing my appetite and i have lost 8kg over the course of 6/7 months (3kg of this has been over the past month). it's not a lot but i'm a bit concerned as i haven't been exercising and i don't eat very healthily. a week and a half ago i had some blood taken and i was told that my white blood cells were raised, however the doctor said this was probably just due to being in pain. i was recently researching leukemia and was concerned to see that i am experiencing a lot of the symptoms (mine are headaches, seizures, sore lymph nodes, infections, pain, weakness, and fatigue). i have seen so many doctors and had so many tests done but i still feel so ill even though everyone is saying that there's nothing wrong! a&e have never taken me seriously (as even when i'm in excruciating pain i can still walk/talk etc.). i know it's probably a reach but i was just wondering if anyone thinks leukemia could've been missed??

thanks :)

  • Hey

I hope you are feeling well. I too feel like this. I found a small but moveable lump on the upper left of my abdomen, frequently get infections, have lost my appetite and have lost 6lbs in 3 weeks with no exercise, I've also started noticing red spots on my legs... my dad passed away with bowel cancer 10 years ago and since then I've always been worried I'll get it so went to the GP and she just said it was either a cyst or a fatty deposit.. do I need to get a second opinion or trust that it's okay?
    it's very scary...!

    Thanks x

  • hi there,

im sorry to hear you're unwell! i know it's scary when you have all those symptoms... did your GP tell you what you might have? other than the cyst/deposit. i know how you feel- my grandfather passed away due to bowel cancer, and my mother's side unfortunately has had quite a few people with cancer. as a result i worry whenever i get any new symptom... i'm no doctor but you should definitely get a second opinion if you're worried. maybe ask for a blood test if you haven't had one done yet.

always here to talk if you need x
