I recently went through an awful time after going to the doctors with left breast pain that I had for 6 months. She then sent me for an urgent referral which I didn't expect  and although I tried to get private breast clinic appointments this was unsuccessful as I had one the night before my brother's wedding (I obviously decline)...I held it out and waited for my nhs appointment which was a few days ago. It was a horrifying experience as I ended up getting a biopsy of a lump but all ended ok...I had to wait 3 weeks for my appointment after my initial gp appointment which was hell on earth as I'm a single mother of 2 and let's be honest you think the worst  ...if you have your appointment just try and remain positive! It's better that you took the leap and got your worry investigated than sitting worrying about it. You need to involve all your family and friends in the wait up to your appointment, watch Netflix, go on plenty of walks listening to podcasts...just keep busy...good luck all ️

  • Hi,

im waiting to hopefully get an appt with my gp this week. I've got a very tender and swollen left breast/armpit, no obvious lumps and a painful right shoulder which may be completely unrelated, I've had both for about 3 weeks...

im worried because mums sister died from pancreatic cancer within 5 months of diagnosis and that started with shoulder pain

    much love

    Hi Icorey,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

The wait to be seen and then for results is one of the worst part of any cancer journey. Had you gone private, you would most likely have ended up with a biopsy too. I am so glad to hear that there was nothing of concern and that you can now relax again.

It is hard to stay positive throughout, but you're right, this is certainly the best way to deal with things. Keeping busy helps the time to pass a little quicker.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Belle,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I hope that you do get an appointment with your GP this week. Don't be afraid to tell the receptionist that you,ve got a painful armpit and that you're worried because there is a history of cancer in the family. The receptionist should then give you an urgent appointment.

I sincerely hope that you're right and that this is nothing untoward, but you are better checking it out, if only for your own peace of mind.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
