Concerned after biopsy

Hi all. I first found a lump in my breast around June of this year. As I have very lumpy breasts and a history of cysts I left it for a while. In September I made a private appointment with a breast consultant who sent me for scan. The scan didn't show anything. The consultant said that he could definitely feel a lump and made a follow up appointment for 6 weeks later. At that appointment the consultant showed no concern and was very kind and professional and told me not to worry it will be fine. At my follow up consultation the lump is still there so he sent for a further scan but wanted me to see a different radiologist. This radiologist found the lump straightaway and told me it needed to be biopsied, he also said I needed a mammogram. At this point I started to worry as this was not what I was expecting. I had the mammogram and scan then had severa core biopsies taken. The radiologist appeared concerned but would not give me a definite answer to my questions whether it is cancerous. He did say that the lump was very small and if it is cancerous then it has been caught early!!He said only pathology will determine what the lump is. I was then sent back to the breast consultant who expressed his concern. He told me that when I walked out of the room for my scan he had to put his head in his hands for 5 minutes before he could see his next patient. He said he knew I would have a problem!! We spoke about possible surgery and an MRI and gene testing as my mum passed away from breast cancer. I am now waiting for results and have a follow up next week. I am feeling anxious but generally ok just wondering what the results will be. I have sort of resigned myself that it will be cancer but am positive it will early stages.

  • Hi,

my story isn't the same but I hope I can help reassure you a bit, I went as I found a lump and was sent for an ultrasound I'm 38 and the consultant didn't seemed worried.

When the Ultrasound was done the lady doing it said straight away it was BC, she said they would heed biopsy to confirm which they did after my Mammogram, they also inserted a marker.,

I just want to say that mine was also small, I am stage 1a, I am a bit further down the line as I've had a lumpectomy to remove it.

when you go for your results if it is Cancer they will already have a plan in place for you. It's very treatable these days and especially as it's small.

I hope you get the all clear, here of you need a chat. X

  • Hi snow drop thank you very much for your kind reply. I definitely wouldn't be so anxious if the consultant hadn't expressed such concern.  But I do think he just genuinely cares very much for his patients. I didn't sleep too well last night roll on Tuesday xx
