Quick turnaround on xray

Hi - I have been having rib and back pain on my right hand side for a few months and have been misdiagnosed as anaemia. Since then I have seen a decent doctor who has sent me for bloods, X-rays and ultrasounds. She said she would call me on 22nd November (nearly 2 weeks) to discuss the results, believed thought we may not have the ultrasound results back, we would definitely have the X-ray and bloods so could discuss.

I went for my X-ray and bloods this afternoon and then this evening, at 6:30pm my doctors receptionist called me to arrange a telephone appointment for Monday between 9-1. This all feels rather urgent (jumping forward 2 weeks) which is really worrying me. I am in a bit of a state with it to be honest. If this was anything serious would they wait until Monday? Would they call me tomorrow? I can't believe I have to wait until Monday and will be a anxious wreck now until then. Any advice would be really appreciated.

  • Hello Worrywart87

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health problems over the past few months. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about the results of your investigations and why the phone call with your GP has been moved forwards.

It's easy to try and second guess why this may be but it could be something as simple. Unfortunately, we know that waiting for results can be a really difficult time and I'm sure that over the weekend you may feel worried about things. Try to keep yourself busy, take things a day at a time, and remain positive until you have news.

Hopefully Monday will bring some answers and the GP will be able to give you some reassurance.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thanks so much for replying. I called my doctors this morning and got an appointment because I just couldn't wait the weekend. It appears that there is a bulkiness on the right hand side of my sternum that now requires a CT scan to investigate further. This has opened up more questions, however I feel like this is most probably costochondritis. Fingers crossed!! I shall keep this posted however.

    Thanks for checking in.

  • Hi I know this is an old post but what happened? I’m going through a similar thing. My sternum pain has been over 20 years but worse since a muscle tear 6 years ago. Ct showed that area to be different but I’ve now got to have a bone scan and convinced it’s cancer. My gp said you had this a long time it’s unlikely but I still think it
