Complex ovarian cyst with 11mm ‘nodule’

Hi all,

sorry if I'm posting in the right place but I'm terrified and just want some advice/similar experiences to mine.

Rewind back to February this year, I had an ultrasound on my pelvis where they found a simple 5cm ovarian cyst, they then called me back for a follow up scan in 6 weeks which i didn't go to (I know how bad that is and I'm absolutely kicking myself) but then rewind to two weeks ago where I got sent for a scan to check on the cyst/check if it had gone, but it hadn't gone and now is classed as a complex cyst with an 11mm 'nodule' I'm not even sure what this means but it's scaring me.

they did a CA125 blood test which came back totally normal at 18 and various other blood tests which were all clear so my doctor said this is all reassuring combined with my age (I'm 22) but I'm absolutely terrified as I have been referred on the 2 week wait system to see a Gynae for another scan and potentially an MRI.

has anyone experienced anything similar, particularly with the nodule on the cyst? Did it turn out benign?

thanks so much for reading x

  • I have just had my overies removed due to complex cysts lm much older than you. Yesterday my consultant rang and told me they were benign l am delighted. The gynaecology surgeon has been really helpful. Do ask any questions that you have when you are seen in clinic They are the best source of information l hope you are seen soon

  • Thank you so much for your response and I'm so glad everything turned out okay for you?

did any of your cysts have a 'nodule' as that's what I'm worried about the most?

    thanks again! X

  • I'm not quite sure what a nodule on the overies  is mine we're solid tissue complex cysts rather than the usual fluid filled sacs. They didn't shrink whilst they were watching and scanning over 5 months so I was put on the waiting list for surgery My daughter had a huge ovarian cyst when she was pregnant the size of a grapefruit they removed it when she was 15 weeks, She's not had any further problems but we were worried that she could miscarry during surgery. You could ask your dr or the hospital consultant what it means
