Cancer diagnosis without Biopsy

Hi there,

I'm 25 and have been coughing for the past 3 months. I finally got an X-Ray last week and a specialist called me the next day, I then had a CT scan and blood tests the following day.

From this, the specialist said that he thinks I have lymphoma cancer. They said they saw a widening in my lungs and also that I had a lump between my neck and shoulder. I haven't yet had my biopsy and I did ask the doctor if it could be anything else but he didn't seem to budge. I know they are specialists for a reason but i'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and it wasn't cancer? I don't have any other symptoms other than coughing - I know this can mean type A. I'm just abit worried and also quite shocked - i don't really expect to be diagnosed with something like this so young but apparently it's common in young people! I'd just love to hear experiences whether positive or negative from people to understand what is going on and potential next steps as i'm abit shellshocked by it all to be honest.

Thanks xx

  • Hello Eden96 and welcome to the forum, although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that brings you here.

It's completely understandable that you're feeling shocked and confused after hearing that your doctor thinks you have lung cancer. Hopefully you'll meet others here who have been in a similar situation as chatting with those who can relate does seem to help.

In the meantime and until you go for your biopsy, I wanted to leave you with the phone line for our team of nurses in case that speaking with someone with a medical background might help. You can reach them on this phone number which is free of charge, 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Wishing you all the best,
