12 year old complex ovarian cyst - could it turn cancerous?

Hi i am hoping someone can reassure me

Nearly 13 years ago i was having some real bad pains, after being back and forth to the gp and hospital i finally had a mri which located a 2.5cm ovarian cyst, wasnt told what type or anything, they had scheduled a key hole surgery to remove but i found out just before it that i was pregnant with my now 12 year old son and that i couldnt have it done, fast forward to now, for the past for months i have had none stop on off pains ended up in hospital over the weekend went for a scan today and they found my cyst is still there she couldnt tell me much just said doctor will be in touch 7pm tonight doctors phone, said that my complex cyst is still there and has grown large,  i didnt know it was a complex cyst, he is sending me to a specialist to determine if its cancer

Can having a cyst like this sat growing for 12 years turn the cyst cancerous or dangerous

  • Hi, sorry to find you here asking for advice.

I can't offer many answers -but hate seeing people asking question and don't have a reply when in need of advice.

I imagine cyst can grow in size over the years - and good that you've been to have it checked over.
Ideally you should get an appoitment within two weeks. You will probably some tests to see size. I'm no expert but they might suggest removing it and sending it off to be checked for the C word-however so far they haven't confirmed anything. So don't panic!!!

Write down any questions you may have. Take someone with you to your next appointment as two sets of ears are better than one when information is given.
The waiting game is the hardest. I've waited 8 weeks since surgery till I have a treatment plan-I've driven myself round the twist.
