Swollen tonsil possibly cancer?

Hello,

just looking for some reassurance really as been to Gp today. I have a very swollen right tonsil.
The Gp looked in my mouth and said the tonsil was massive and I need to get it looked at. Now I'm petrified it's cancer. She said hopefully it's a red herring but it needs looking at. I'm am waiting on an ENT referral, which hopefully will get in the next couple of weeks.
I have had a sore throat for last 2 months on the opposite side but not on the big tonsil side, but I think the tonsil has been bigger than the other one for a little while. It's only because of the sore throat I took more notice of it. Feel like I'm getting a cold but nothing really comes of it.
anyone out there with similar symptoms? The Gp did mention the C word but was more hopeful it could be acid relux related.
Just slightly stressed now.

  • Welcome to the forum Missp0182 although I'm sorry about your tonsil and for the worries it is causing.

Waiting for referrals is always tough, especially when the 'c' word has been mentioned, but try and concentrate on what else your GP said it could be as nothing is determined or set in stone until tests are carried out and results come through.

Hopefully some of our members who have contended with similar symptoms will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you but in the meantime I hope the tips and advice given on the NHS Every Mind Matters website will help keep your nerves at bay whilst you wait.

We'll have our fingers crossed for a good outcome missp0182.

    Kind regards,
