Worried about bloating, pain and blood results

Hi all I'm hoping for some advice and to put my mind at rest a bit. Up until last year I was a size 8 and over the past 8 months I have put weight on all over and gone to a 12/14, the last 3 months I have had lots of bloating, pain right from bottom of stomach up to under breasts, and around my sides. Sometimes its a sickly ache, other times its stabbing pains. Going toilet regularly and although its slightly loose its fine. Going for wee a little more than usual but no pain. Periods still normal and no extra pain. But the bloating and stabbing pains have worried me along with uncomfortable feeling after eating. In my head I feel its gassy and diet issues. But I thought I would speak to doctor as my mom had very similar symptoms and was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer ( i have had genetics test and it was negative) doctor didn't seem concerned but suggested blood tests and poo and wee samples. A few days he rang and said both samples were normal but blood tests showed elevated ca125 (i never asked for numbers as I was in shock) he suggested a emergency scan and said it pointed to my ovaries!!! I'm now in complete panic mood, my mom struggled desperately for 3 years and her passing was horrendous and really scarred me. My children have been through so much losing their nan and then grandad to a stroke I just can't imagine how I would break the news to them and how I would come. I had a lad with autism and a 13 year old girl. Do you think it could me something other than cancer?

  • I'm sorry to hear your going through this. I too is going through it same thing and I have my scan today. I'm so scared. What was your CA125 number?

  • Sorry just read you didn't know the numbers.

  • I stupidly didn't ask he just said my numbers were elevated. Thats how they found my moms cancer so I went into panic mode. Hope you get on OK with your scan. What are your symptoms?  How long have you wanted for scan. Doc said he would put mine through as a emergency but because of covid there's a wait

  • Thank you so much. I have ibs anyway I had horrible pain worse than ibs pain so I went to the docs. Plus I thought I was premenopausal cause my periods have been strange lately. But also pretty much the same symptoms as you. I have had to wait 11 days since the docs referral but it feels like months. He said the same thing but to contact him if I hadn't heard anything in two weeks he would chase it aswell as he said it was a urgent referral. He also said he has seen numbers in the thousands. Not sure what he meant about that as such but said mine was 3 x higher than it should be.

  • Its so scary isn't it, I have read that numbers can be elevated by different illnesses but I can't  find anything my symptoms relate to. No heavy bleeding, period issues etc so I'm really panicking. I really hope your scan goes well. They tell you not to worry about numbers but its impossible not too. Let me know how you get on

  • It's so scary. Hopefully we will both get the answers soon.

    will do lovely x

  • I'm 42 came back from my scan at 12.had urine/gastro problem s GP was investigating for possible uterine cancer.the sonograher (cause I bugged her)cleared me for cancer my ovary is slightly bulky which could be nothing or a cyst? have to be rescanned in 6 week s please don't panic I'm the world's worst worrier I worry when I'm not worrying it's awful when you have kids you cry for them not yourself stay in the moment don't Dr Google take comfort in the statistics (100 people only one will be ovarian cancer)

I wish you all the very best

    Much love

    Kel x

  • Thank you for replying, so happy that you've had good news. I don't think I would worry so much if I hadn't seen what my poor mom went through. I think I should have asked more questions when I spoke to doc but I just went into panic. Its the waiting game I hate I would rather just know.

I did Google and I thought I had put my mind at rest because it says your numbers can be raised for lots of different reasons so I felt a huge relief but then googled all the symptoms for everything else I could have and nothing really fits.

I'm like you, a massive worrier and always think the worst then anything good is a bonus haha. But will try and stay positive until I know more.

Hope all turns out well for you x

  • Cancer runs in my family but it either hits the generation or skips one my nan died from bowel cancer my mum seems fine so I'm on my guard (constantly feeling my boob's) I look like a weirdo even gone as far as he plot bumps with a felt tip pen . awareness of cancer is everywhere so makes you more paranoid I literally had my funeral in my head yesterday .I wanna try and reassure you best I can my ca125 was 38 apparently it makes no difference if it's 38 or 388?it can't diagnose cancer or the stage.your cycle can affect it so for my age my ca should of been 10 it was the week before my period I didn't know each woman every Month gets a cyst on her ovaries the sonograher told me?how can I have a 20 yr old and 14 yo and not know that?why aren't we told that stuff??the wait is the worst I'm a mum who got up this morning my little one at his dad's eldest at university I made a coffee then tipped it for a large glass of vinofelt like such a rebel drinking wine at 7am not done that since was like 19my advice be honest with your sonograher explain the about your anxiety, your children tell them you need to know from a woman to a woman they can't diagnose cancer but they can read a scan and give you an opinion you lose nothing by asking xx

  • Incidentally was your pain in waves like contractions or the fuller your bladder got it would stop you walking?peeing frequently but full bladder not like UTI? X
