FIT TEST

I had a fit test taken a week ago today as I'm getting sent on the urgent referral pathway. The fit test came back negative. I'm baffled by this as I'm still having blood in stools. As previously mentioned the doctor had given me an examination and she advised all felt fine. I have been experiencing pain in my lower back, hip, side and lower abdomen right side. I also feel bloated a lot. The gp advised as the fit test was negative they might not rush my appointment and for a colonoscopy it could take a number of weeks/months to get. I'm so worried that the longer this is left the worse something is going to get. I feel so stuck because I don't want to annoy my gp but at the same time im living in worry and fear and also pain with no explanation.

I know how stressful this all is, but this is good news. Have you actually seen blood in your stools? Or just on the toilet paper/in the bowl?
If it's the latter, this probably means you don't actually have blood in the stool, that it is coming from somewhere nearer the anus and likely from something like hemorrhoids or a fissure. That is what my doctor said when I got a negative result on the FOBT, though I think that is not as sensitive as the FIT. Even with that though, he seemed fairly certain that the blood was coming from something like a hemorrhoid and was nothing to worry about; he didn't even think I needed a colonoscopy, but the specialist said he would do it anyway, to be sure.
At your age and with a negative FIT test and the GP finding nothing, the odds are probably very much against some of the more serious problems like cancer.

Hi,
on the first occasion it was on my stool and a lot of blood on the toliet paper after that it has been small little lines every day since. My bowel movements have completely changed from my normal. I have pain in my right side lower abdomen, back and hip and also get a pulling sensation on and off in my left. Constant bloating and feeling full. Recently today I feel really weak and dizzy light headed. I just feel so stuck, I don't even know what the next step is as the doctor says I just have to wait for the Castro doc to give me a call but I can't live for months with this pain it's so uncomfortable and stopping me from doing my usual daily things as I'm so frightened to do anything with it.
