Nipple change

Hi, first time poster here.
I have had breast pain (one sided) for a number of years now, GP advised that it was likely hormonal so I haven't been worried.
lately the pain has been different....more burny than achy and i noticed my nipple on that side slightly pointing downwards. Asked the husband to check and he agreed it looked different. I made an appt with the Gp and was throughly checked, they couldn't feel anything and suggested we take a watch and wait approach.
this is all fine but I'm struggling to find any literature on what exact nipple changes could be linked to something sinister....everything I read suggests to look out for inverted nipples. Am wondering if I should push for a referral or be confident in watching and waiting?

as an aside I'm 42.

Hi, I would try and arrange another appoitment to see a
different GP and ask to be referred for a mammogram
to put your mind at rest.
Highlight your worries and concerns.
keep us posted with your progress

Thanks so much for your reply Effie. Yes I think I will do that as it's definitely a change and it'll only worry me. I was trying to understand if there were any regular things tha can cause the change in position to put my mind at ease but I can't find anything that suggests what could be the cause. Thanks again. Hi, I was wondering how you're getting on.
I've got an appointment at the breast clinic on Wednesday due to my right nipple being more erect and slightly darker plus occasional aching. I too could not find any posts on this sort of nipple change.
