Lumpy/Painful Breast in mid 20’s - Is this a concern?

Hi everyone,

I've booked in to see a breast consultant at a local private hospital, as my GP thinks my pain is hormonal (despite not seeing me in person) and the pain only being in one breast.

My left breast is larger than my right one, it's lumpy and tender, so it's so difficult to feel for any lumps because the whole breast is very dense feeling. I get a pain that aches on the outer edge and goes into my armpit. I'm only 26 and I could tell my GP thought I was being dramatic for asking for a private referral. My question is, am I being dramatic with my age and symptoms? It's obviously not cheap but I'm willing to pay it, as I don't feel satisfied with a diagnosis over the phone. I'm naturally a worrier so I can't help but think about it!

  • Hi, I know how you feel. I have really similar symptoms. Luckily my GP saw me straight away and referred me to breast clinic but the pain was so bad I paid to go private. I don't have all the results yet but was told they I have multiple cysts in outer area of breast caused by what they felt was sn auto immune disease. I've had shoulder blade pain for a few months, armpit pain along with a swollen area in my armpit and then found the lumps in my breast. The pain has progressed to being unbearable and keeping me awake at night and has caused pain in my arm on the same side. My breast is swollen and dense too so I know it's hard to locate lumps. I only found two and not the several they found during scan xx
