My cancer diagnosis

Hi. My name is Julie and I have just signed up to this forum. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. I had a lumpectomy 26 sessions of radiotherapy. Was also prescribed letrozole to be taken daily for 5 years...A few weeks ago I  began having pains in my lower back and spreading to my hips. I ignored it for a week, just thinking it was muscular related, as I had suffered a slipped disc 15 years ago...A couple of weeks ago I still had the pains, also bad cramps in my legs while I was in bed trying go sleep. I finally got through to my G.P and explained the symptoms to him, he arranged for me to have an xray on my spine...He said because you have had  breast cancer. I had the xray yesterday, since then I have been depressed, anxious and worrying. I have also been reading on line about secondary breast cancer symptoms and metastasis. I am very scared awaiting for the results, but deep down I know its not good news. I cannot concentrate on anything...Is there anyone else out there going through the same as myself. I would love to hear from you if so.....

  • Hello Julie

I'm Joanne. I have just been referred to a breast clinic as I have a lump and an inverted nipple. I am actually writing because I have had the same symptoms of hip pain, cramps, loss of feeling at the top of my legs. I had an MRI scan on the base of my spine and have been told that the nerves from my spine are damaged. I was hospitalised last August for 2 weeks on IV antibiotics as they thought I had osteomyelitis, then discitis, and then eventually cauda equina syndrome.  I'm a wheelchair user now,  as I have also had 3 operations on the top of my spine in the last 5 years. My whole spine is pretty much knackered now. I do understand your concern, but I wouldn't be too worried about it being linked to your breast diagnosis. It's probably something else altogether. I hope I have tried to help you, and there are no guarantees, but I do wish you the very best. Take care - Joanne x
