Worried about new lump :<

Hiya, first post. I don't really know if i'm going loopy or not, hopefully it's nothing and I can relax...

I found a hard, painful to touch lump on my armpit an hour or two ago before I went to have a shower. Life flashing before my eyes, I've not achieved much in my life, no kids, not married, don't own a home nor have a career, all that stuff... I always do the monthly checking for lumps thing and never caught it. My partners mother (who's a nurse) thinks it may just be an abcess, swollen gland or potentially a sign of pre-diabetes. i'm hoping that she's right with one of those things. I am going to see if I can see a doctor face-to-face tomorrow, which is ever increasingly hard these days since Covid. I've had aches and pains around my chest but put it down to normal body pangs that we all get from time to time. Here's hoping :<

  • Hey, I know how you are feeling I have been going through similar thing and also found my armpit lump in the shower. I have had minor pain when putting on roll on deodorant on one armpit for a few months. Nothing registered in my mind until I found a breast lump after having some pains. Mine sounds similar to yours as it is a hard swollen area in the centre that if pressed is tender. I have had it checked privately and have been told it's not concerning and maybe muscular related but my breast lumps may be an auto immune disease. Still waiting on all the answers but just wanted to post on case this gave you some re-assurance. Make sure you persist with your doctor for a visit to get it checked though and sending lots of love. It certainly made me think about life so I think that's a normal reaction xx

  • Hi OctoberDay,

I notice you mentioned you got a lump checked privately, would you recommend going to a private specialist? I'm having breast pains and think I have found a small hard lump. My GP isn't concerned but won't seen me in person. I'm considering booking a consultation with a breast consultant privately so they can have a feel. Hope you get some more answers x

  • Hi, I'm sorry to hear your doctor won't see you to do an examination. If your doctor won't reconsider and you don't have another you can visit then I would say definitely visit a private consultant if you can afford it. The consultant was able to say within 10 minutes that he wasn't concerned and left the decision for the scan entirely up to me as he said I could go back to my GP to go via the NHS breast centre. I chose to go with the scan privately as felt I needed more information sooner because of the level of pain. I think they always write to your GP with the outcome too so not sure if that would make your GP listen to your concerns more?

I'm not sure when you found your lump but if it has stuck around for at least one period cycle then personally I think it's something that needs checking.

The lump I found first felt quite hard to me and I didn't do anything about it for a week or so because I didn't know if it was just my breast type. Then I compared it to my other breast and realised that it was 'squishier' so to say so assumed it must be a lump and I was a little shocked at first when my GP confirmed it was I think I felt I didn't really know what I was looking for.

I hope this helps and you are able to get checked over xx
