Ovarian cancer scare!

Hi everyone.

I'm not one to normally post on social media but I've had Abit of a scare today and wondered if anyone can offer any advice ( no matter how truthful or harsh !) or their experience if similar.

so 3 yrs ago I had a very large dermoid cyst urgently removed which was engulfing my right ovary.

the past 6/8 months I've had similar symptoms in the same spot to what I originally had. Pain, bloody discharge etc.

I had a ultrasound today, external & internal.

it took ages ( about a hour) and there were two sonographers. I knew they found something as I felt pain when they hit the spot where I usually feel the pain. They were discussing if they were taking measurements & enough images of 'it' . So obviously they have found something. They spent a long time in the area that causes me pain without me telling them that was the exact spot that hurts me.

I've been in more pain today as obviously have aggravated whatever is there & now I have pain radiating to my back this afternoon.

my question is.. are these symptoms typical of cancer? Could it be my dermoid cyst has returned?

thank you in advance

  • Hello Mylily,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It does sound like the pain is located right in the exact same spot where you had the dermoid cyst so it may well be related to that but only the results of the ultrasound scan will be able to give you some clarity as to what is causing these issues and this pain. It looks like the sonographers did a thorough job in getting all the measurements they needed.

Unfortunately no one here will be able to tell you whether your symptoms are typical of cancer but there are so many other things it could be especially given you had a dermoid cyst before in the very same spot. So try not to anticipate what it might be or fear the worst as you are waiting for results. I know this is easier said than done but the best thing to do while you are waiting to find out more is to keep busy and focused on other things if you can. It won't be long now before you have some definite answers and I keep everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

I hope you'll hear from some of our members who have had similar symptoms before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie,

thank you so much for your reply.

ive been in a lot more pain the past few days since the spot was aggravated and quite worried now but as you say I won't know for certain untill I get the results.

im hoping it could maybe just be scar tissue that has formed.

hopefully some other members will be along to read and comment.

    thank you
