Armpit Lump 23 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone,

I am so anxious and can't quite believe I am posting here, looking for some advice. Hope this is OK to post.

I'm 32 years old and currently 23 weeks pregnant with my first child.

About 2 weeks ago I noticed whilst in the shower I had a hardish lump under my right armpit at the bottom near the top outer edge of my breast. I've done lots of reading and it seems to be the kind you should be more worried about as its pretty immobile. I dont have any pain with it whatsoever.

Saw my GP last week who said I could wait another week or two and see if it disappears (as could hould be a swollen lymph node) or i could get referred to breast clinic now, I chose to be referred and now havw an appointment on 20th November.

Im wondering what to expect at the clinic when I go and also hear if anyone has had any similar experiences with an armpit lump.

I did have 2 vaccines (flu and whooping cough) about 10 days before I noticed the lump and I know that can sometimes make tour lymph node swell but I feel that thinking is false hope.  I'm a natural worrier though so trying not to constantly think the worst as being too stressed isn't good for me or baby I imagine.

Thanks in advance for reading x

  • Hi Ms_Emma

I have just read your post as I also have a lump which sounds exactly like yours but in my left breast. I noticed it around 8 weeks ago.

I have an 11 week old baby so after two check ups at the GP they have both advised to wait as probably hormonal. This hadn't sat right with me so I've booked a private scan which I have next week as I too am a worrier. Being on mat leave, I am home a lot of the time with my baby and my mind is going into overdrive and I am petrified as my gut is telling me it's going to be bad news. I know reading online doesn't help but I can't seem to help myself.

Anyway, sorry its not advice just wanted to share as I know how hard it is not to worry...pregnancy and baby hormones just heighten the situation even more so.

    X

  • Thanks @MsCosti as strange as it sounds it's quite reassuring talking to someone in a similar position. I've also been told (by my aunt who is a Doctor albeit not in this field) that it could be hormonal.

You are so right, Google is the worse but it becomes an obsession!

I hope all goes well with your scan. Keep us posted x

  • I know exactly what you mean, my reply to you was the first post on this forum and it felt like a sense of relief knowing we are not alone.

Fingers crossed for both our apts x

  • If it makes you feel any better my gut had convinced me I had cancer last time I had a lump, felt hard immobile and irregular shaped, I had a biopsy (totally pain free) and it was nothing- no action needed.

so try and ignore your gut!

  • Thank you so much, I really needed to hear that today! X

  • Thank you, that is helpful. Did they say what it was? Hopefully in a similar boat. Hard not to assume the worst x

  • Fibrodenanoma (maybe spelt wrong!)

honestly iv had 3 lumps and my biggest advice is to TRY to forget about it, you literally can't self diagnose no matter what you read.

talk to others on here (really helps to not feel alone) but don't obsess.

until you have that scan and/or biopsy you literally have zero idea, don't obsess with Google xx

  • @MsCosti how did you get on? I hope all was ok for you x

  • I just wanted to come back and update this thread. I know how panicked I was myself and was endlessly scrolling forums with similar worries and very rarely found an update which can be even more worrying. So if I can bring comfort to even one person I know that makes a difference.

Had my appointment at breast clinic today. It turns out the lump is excess breast tissue. Told its always likely to have been there but its now more pronounced due to pregnancy hormones and may even get bigger as my milk starts coming in.
