post menopause bleeding

Hi Everyone

Looking for some reassurance I'm 53 post menopause no periods for 5 years started HRT in June this year

weekend just gone i started bleeding started with the brown discharge and now its red im on day 7 its not heavy and mainly when i wipe but can soil a sanitary towel (never thought id be buying these again !) and have the usual period pains

I have spoken to two Drs the first wasn't very helpful and the second wasnt overly concerned and  just said to see if it settles down in two weeks or increase my progestorone to 200mg (currently im on 100mg continuous) hrt guidelines suggest only 100mg if on continuous

I have another dr's appointment on Tuesday (for something else)  and after reading your experiences on here should i be requesting a ultrasound scan or should the Dr be doing this already ?

head a bit all over the place as HRT was going really well never expected to start bleeding

your thought or experiences would be much appreciated xx

  • Hello tiger1,

You're doing the right thing in getting this bleeding investigated. It's good you spoke to different doctors about this especially if the first one wasn't very helpful. It's always wise to get a second opinion in situations like this. As you're seeing the doctor again on Tuesday, you could perhaps ask whether they think an ultrasound scan would be advisable and you could mention that you are worried about this post menopausal bleeding.

I thought I would mention this thread I've just spotted by [@HeJaJa]‍ who posted today and is also worried about a post menopausal bleeding so you may have a lot to share with one another.

I hope that you'll hear from some of our members who have had similar experiences and that they will be along shortly to share their stories with you.

Fingers crossed this bleeding settles down soon.

    Best wishes,
