Referred to breast clinic

Hey guys, I found a lump in my breast a week ago, spoke to my gp, had an examination and she's referred me to a cancer clinic. My tests are on the 8th and I'm so nervous. I keep getting sick recently and the colds seem to be never ending. I'm not sure if it's down to stress or something more sinister. Does anyone know what I should expect at my appointment? I know I'm having a scan but my letter from the hospital says I'll be there for about 4 hours???

  • Hi,

The waiting is the worst part, I think the cold and sickness will be nerves and stress.

I found a lump in March this year and was referred to the breast clinic, at my appointment I met the doctor, she examined me, then I had a mammogram, then an ultrasound and then a biopsy (painless and quick) then they inserted a tiny metal marker in where they had biopsied me,  so they know where they had been (again painless) then another mammogram to check they could see the clip. After all that I met back up with the doctor, who unfortunately told me from all the imaging that it was cancer, it was a huge shock but they explained it was treatable and I'd need surgey but they would tell me more when they got the biopsy results. But remember not all lumps are cancer and they may not be able to tell you there and then.

The staff were all amazing and professional and made me feel relaxed, very best of luck with it all x

  • Thankyou for your informative update, do you think they will do all the same tests for me? I am only 35? x

  • Hi,

They might not do a mammogram and just do an ultrasound as younger breasts have denser tissue which doesnt show up so well on a mammogram. I was 44 when I had mine.

The first doctor you see should explain everything that is going to happen. X

  • Hi,

my name is Sarah, I'm 38, you will see the Consultant first off all who will examine you,

You will be sent for a Ultrasound first and they will have a look if they are concerned they will do a Mammogram and biopsy, all very painless.

Try not to worry, It could be a Cyst or Hormonal lump. I have everything crossed for you.

My only Advise is to take someone with you.
    Sending positive vibes

    Love Sarah

  • Hey,

I went to the bereast clinic when I was 26th, I met with a consultant who put pen on the area he wanted scanned.

I then went and had an ultrasound, they told me that it was a simple cyst and I went home, no waiting for results, no more treatment.

I found another lump when I was 28, went to clinic, saw consultant, ultrasound scan, this time it wasn't a cyst so they did a biopsy (numbed the area by injecting, then did it- honestly wasn't painful AT ALL) I then went back to the consultant who booked my results appointment in for a weeks time with her at the hospital, about 3 days later I get a phone call to tell me it was nothing sinister and that my appointments been cancelled.

I did see a lady at the clinic who was waiting for her results appointment, I saw her after her appointment and the consultant told her that she shouldn't of come to the appointment as there's was nothing wrong! So even if you don't get ring, try not to worry, it could still be nothing.

im now 29 and waiting for the breast clinic to ring to book me in, as iv found lump number 3.

I hate this, it's so scary.
