What to expect at the breast clinic

Hi everyone,

After waiting 3 weeks the hospital have phoned me and made me an appointment for next Thursday at 10am didn't go into much detail about it but she said it could take up to 2 hours?

im really worry as I'm not sure what to expect at this appointment and I'll be attending on my own ️ Also can I add that I've recently found out that I'm pregnant so my nerves are through the roof.

  • I went to the bereast clinic when I was 26th, I met with a consultant who put pen on the area he wanted scanned.

I then went and had an ultrasound, they told me that it was a simple cyst and I went home, no waiting for results, no more treatment.

I found another lump when I was 28, went to clinic, saw consultant, ultrasound scan, this time it wasn't a cyst so they did a biopsy (numbed the area by injecting, then did it- honestly wasn't painful AT ALL) I then went back to the consultant who booked my results appointment in for a weeks time with her at the hospital, about 3 days later I get a phone call to tell me it was nothing sinister and that my appointments been cancelled.

I did see a lady at the clinic who was waiting for her results appointment, I saw her after her appointment and the consultant told her that she shouldn't of come to the appointment as there's was nothing wrong! So even if you don't get ring, try not to worry, it could still be nothing.

im now 29 and waiting for the breast clinic to ring to book me in, as iv found lump number 3.

The younger you are the less likely you are to have a mammogram and more likely ultrasound.

you physically will be able to drive, but you may not feel up to it, I had a really bad worry headache etc.

congratulations on the pregnancy, I have everything g crossed for you.

  • Hi lovely

Thanks for the reply. The doctor told me it wasn't even a lump I have both my breast are just very densy and they are quite big and since having my first child have gotten bigger. I was experiencing some sort of sharp pains in my breasts which came and went then I found out I was pregnant and now there even more sore which I knew would happen as I had it with my first pregnancy. I think it's due to being pregnant again so does the doctor but she still wants me to go to this appointment. She also explained she wasn't concerned if she could do a scan at the doctors she would but she can't.. it's just when the hospital phoned and said it would take 2 hours freaked me out!! I'm also only 22 and the thought of the C word frightens the life out of me, especially being pregnant all my emotions are very heightened.

thanks again for taking the time to reply.

  • I'm pretty sure the breast clinics a 1 size fits all, as in you'll go see the consultant and have the relavent scan, then either go home, biopsy etc dependant on the scan. I'm pretty sure you'll have an ultrasound as younger denser breast have these instead of the mammogram.

at my hospital there's a lot of waiting- wait to see consultant- wait to go for scan- wait to see consultant again. Both times iv been there's been a room with a lot of people all in the same boat as you. The procedures themselves don't take long, but the waiting does.

    I hope that helps.

sounds like it's all positive and just checking to make sure so try no to worry (she says as she's pacing the floor feeling sick with worry )
