Doctor wants to wait two weeks before feeling lump.

I have a really good doctor at my surgery. They're away at the moment. My breasts got examined two months ago because I had a dent in the nipple. No lump was found and put down to weight gain and loss. I've since found something in my breast and the doctor today seemed quite perteurbed that I wanted it checked because I'd been seen two months ago. At that point I couldn't feel a lump, but I realise I can only feel it when I'm on my side.

the doctor told me to wait until I'm on my next period to have it felt and when I said I'd appreciate if it could be felt sooner than that because I didn't feel comfortable to wait, she told me that I'd been examined two months ago and there was nothing there, so there's no rush.

Has anyone else has this? I told her I would speak to my regular doctor when I could, and she said I can't just see one doctor?

It probably is only a cyst, but I've never heard of a doctor - when there's a lump - saying to wait two weeks. It's been there a couple of weeks, so since my last period.

Any advice would be great.

thanks.

  • Hi,

I would push for a referral to the breast clinic for an ultrasound, just explain you've found a lump and you are worried, along with the changes to your nipple I would say it warrants further examination.

Do you have any family history of bc?

  • Hi Yorkie,

thanks. She was absolutely adamant that because I'd had it checked two and half months ago that I didn't need it checked again.

the nipple was checked two months ago and I was told the dent was fat death because of weight gain and loss. I accepted that, but now I've found something I'm worried. I'm also being investigated for a while range of other things, including breathless and nightsweats and have a lump in my collarbone that's getting scanned next week (all more reasons to get this checked).

I just wondered if anyone had ever been refused to have a lump felt until they're on their period?

every time I've had a lump felt (usually a cyst) in the past I've been told it should be a week after my period, which is now.

Yes, family history. Nan died of it, and mum just had it for the second time, hence, would be great if someone could just feel it. Feel so anxious and upset again. Being spoken down to and dismissed.
