Lumps on jaw and behind ear- should I see doctor?

Hi all, I am 23 years old and would like some advice...

Last October, I noticed a large lump on the right side of my jawline. Further ultrasound scans showed it as an enlarged lymph node but with no features of concern. Doctors suggested it could be enlarged from a previous infection and sometimes these lumps take a while to go down... over a year later and it is still there.

Two months ago, I found another, small lump behind my right ear- I also believe this to be a lymph node but I have yet to see the doctor about this. I have no obvious infection that is causing this.

Does this sound normal? Should I just assume it is an enlarged lymph node like the last time? I am scared the doctors might be missing something...

  • Hello Lily98

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found another lump. It's understandable that you're not only feeling anxious about this but also about the new lump that you've recently found.

Whilst there can be many reasons for lumps, we'd recommend anyone who finds a new lump or is concerned about an existing lump makes an appointment to speak with their GP as they will be best placed to check this over for you. Do give them a ring this week. I'm sure they will be able to give you some reassurance and arrange any investigations that may be appropriate.

    Best wishes,
