Cervical cancer or something else?

Hello,

im driving myself crazy with worry after seeing my Dr this week. She had a look at my cervix after post coital bleeding & said she saw something that could either be 1) early sign of cervical cancer or 2) just something due to where I am in my cycle. I've been doing research and ectropion wasn't even mentioned as a possible cause.

symptoms I've got;

- bad lower back pain for months (recently diagnosed as sciatica)

- UTI which has been treated but feels like it could be back

- menstrual cycle is a complete mess (not on any form of birth control since August 2020, had 2 weeks between periods then 6+ weeks, spotting lots including after sex)

Im trying to convince myself it's ectropion so that I can sleep at night, but why was that not even mentioned? Just straight to the big C!

I have my gynae 2ww appointment on Friday morning (it's now Monday).

Any help/reassurance/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Zoë

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Zoe although I'm sorry for the worry this has been causing.

    I know it's always scary when the 'C' word is mentioned but do try and keep in mind what else your GP said and that something else could be causing your symptoms. Also, I hope it helps to know that 9 out of 10 people who are given an urgent referral are not diagnosed with cancer.

    Only your GP will be able to tell you why cervical ectropian wasn't mentioned so if you think it will help to put your mind at ease do try and see if you can have another chat with them before your appointment.

    We're thinking of you Zoe and wishing you all the best for Friday.

    Kind regards,
