FIT test 146 but no GP appointment for 4 weeks

I've had piles in the past with some minor bleeds which coupled with heavy periods at the time led to me developing iron deficiency anaemia (2017) - got checked out by GP and had continuing cold sores on my face until the iron tablets kicked in. Didn't have a cold sore again until earlier this year and blood tests showed folate and iron deficiency- I'm still on iron tablets now. GP only doing telephone appointments but I've not had any obvious bleeding when using the loo, not lost weight and am extremely prone to constipation- GP suggested FIT test and then I got a letter telling me to call surgery to make another telephone appointment- the receptionist said FIT test score was 146 but blood tests are normal - can't get another appointment for four weeks and tbh don't know what score means and think blood will be normal as I'm still taking iron. I've googled FIT test 146 and found a post on here about people being called next day by their doctor for colonoscopy! Should I be concerned?

  • Hi Jilly286,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your concerns and the confusion with this. It does seem a little strange that you've had these results with no follow-up appointment for several weeks. I can only suggest trying to call your GP again to get something sooner - perhaps trying to ring first thing when they open as they will sometimes reserve sooner appointments. I'm not able to advise on what the situation may be with yourself, but it's of course important that you can get some answers from your doctor, so I hope that you're able to do this.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
