Thickened endometrium, spotting, raised CA125

I'm probably worrying over nothing, but wondered if anyone had similar experience.
This is in relation to thickened endometrium, spotting, and heaviness/achiness in lower abdomen.
I've had heavy and irregular periods for the past 5 years or so, and am quite certain that I'm perimenopause. At the beginning of the year, I asked my GP for advice as I was really not feeling my best, and thought it was thyroid related. GP did loads of tests. Thyroid was fine, but other bloods came back showing I had low ferritin levels, raised blood sugar and raised CA125 (59). I had glucose blood test which was fine. I'm on iron tablets, and do feel better, when I remember to take them.
Because of the raised CA125, I was sent for an abdominal ultrasound. All was fine, except thickened endometrium of 12mm, which the sonographer said was high for midway through my cycle. He referred me back to my GP, and GP referred me to gynaecology. Gynaecology said they had a long waiting list and it might be 6 months before I get a letter to be seen. That was almost 4 months ago, and haven't heard anything since.
Prior to this month, my period has always been irregular, usually anything from 23 to 32 days, but over the past 2 years have had a couple of longer gaps of 42 and 65, which is part of why I think I'm perimenopause. I'm now day 70. I had some spotting on days 42, 43, 44 and 52, and abdominal/back aches have been on and off for the whole two months. I am also getting pain during sex, and lots of aching afterwards.
I'm getting myself worked up that there could be something wrong, and finding myself googling several times a week trying to find answers.
Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi Hoppityhop,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can imagine this must be unsettling and I'm sure the long wait for answers isn't helping. It's good to hear at least that you have got through four months of the waiting, but I understand a potential two more is not ideal given your current concerns. I would suggest it may be best to give your doctor a call to explain things and see if there's any way the referral can be sped up a little.

Alternatively you are always welcome to give our nurses a call to talk things through as this may be helpful. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

In the meantime do try to avoid Googling things, as a lot of the information can end up being irrelevant and it only tends to increase worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
