Swollen glands

Hi, I'm just looking for some reassurance. I can see there are many threads on swollen glands already but mine have been going on for so long.
I first noticed a lump and tenderness on my left collar bone in May, six days after my first Covid vaccine (Moderna) on the same side I had the jab. This went down after around ten days.
In August, I found another swolllen gland, painless but this time more toward the back of my neck, again on the left side. I had also been having severe lower back pain in the middle of my back, as well as groin pain on the left and deep burning pains at the sides of my lower back, both sides. I got really concerned and saw a GP, she examined my neck snd said she could feel the gland but that she wasn't worried. She was sure the back pain was muscular, from my symptoms and also examined my left leg/groin just to be sure, as well as sending me for x ray on the hip/groin to make sure all ok. It was, as far as I know. She said to give the swollen gland 6 weeks to go down, and if it hadn't, go back.
That particular gland did go down but a couple of weeks later my neck was feeling very tender on the left side and this has continued, it's now been about 7 weeks. My glands in the last week on the left side of neck have been up and down like yo-yos, on the collar bone, in the neck etc.  The whole area has been tender/uncomfortable  the whole time and can feel quite swollen. I've been back to GP and he sent me for blood tests, they came back normal, and I have a scan in a couple of weeks.
I have no other symptoms of anything at all except this lower back pain - it's a lot better but twinges now and then and I still get the burning pain every few days but now only on the left side.
I'm trying to convince myself it's ok but I'm really feeling very worried. I have young kids and I can't bear the thought of leaving them.

Thank you

  • Hello Coco16 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

You're right there are lots of threads on the forum about swollen glands and I hope that you will hear from others who have found themselves in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

I have read on here several members reporting having a lump on the collarbone after receiving the vaccine so this may well have been related to that especially as you mention this lump went down.

You did well to see the GP and I can imagine you are feeling a bit anxious as you are waiting for your scan in a couple of weeks. I know it's really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate the worst as there are so many things it could be that are not cancer.

The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
