How to find motivation whilst waiting for biopsy results?

Hi all,

It's been two weeks now since my biopsy (vulvar) and I'm still waiting for my results to come through the post. The gyno said it'll take up to two weeks to get my results, but the post came today and no letter. It's frustrating as I just want to know the answer instead of stewing on it.

I'm currently at University and have fallen behind as I've lost all motivation to do anything since my gyno referral. Does anyone have advice on how to distract yourself/get some motivation whilst you wait?

Thank you all :)

  • Hi there!

I am not waiting for biopsy results - but I am waiting for MRI results, so I understamd your worries/ frustrations. I would actually ring your consultants secretary and ask if the results are in yet and when you might hear. I called my consultants secretary today to see if my results were back - they are - but my consultant is on holiday and has not looked at them yet - so close but so far!  I think you can 'park' things if you have an idea that you are not forgotten and that you will find out eventually. It is hard not to worry - knowledge is power whichever way it goes. I actually find my work days are much better for me as I concentrate on the tasks I need to do, and think less of what ifs. Use the university work to occupy some of those negative thoughts, I know it's hard, but until you know what's going on you have to live too.

I hope things work out for the best for you and try calling the department tomorrow - let me know how it goes.

  • Thank you for the advice!

I'm currently trying to get a hold of them but it's going to voicemail at the moment. I'm sorry to hear that, I have my fingers crossed that we will get our results soon. I'll try buckling down on my work, god's know I need to haha.

Once again thank you so much for replying :)

  • My goodness - how frustrating getting voicemail! I think there are a lot of NHS staff taking a break this week due to half term, and yes they do work hard and need their holidays, but it's not great when you are needing answers. I often wonder why there aren't other staff who can tell you results, as if you ring your GP for test results - and the GP who saw you is off, then another GP will give you the result, especially if it is something that is a concern or if they feel it would benefit the patient. In fairness I am waiting to hear a result from a consultant who has not even set eyes on me, so I really don't care who gives me the results as long as they can answer my questions! Originally I was seen by a very lovely doctor - and I would much rather he told me than someone I've never met! Anyhow enough ranting!

I hope you get a letter or appointment or something really soon.

What are you studying at Uni? Just curious
