Low to high grade 6 months

Hi, I have a smear every year after abnormal cells a few year back. My last colposcopy was in March 21 and they decided to wait to see if the then low grade changes would disappear on their own. I had a follow-up smear a few weeks ago and the results are now high grade dyskaryosis. I'm aware these changes are mostly precancerous and my upcoming colposcopy will explore them in more detail but I'm just wondering if any one has been through similar where the cells have rapidly changed within 6 month for them to go from low grade to high grade. Although I'm not too concerned about needing another colposcopy (this will be my 3rd or 4th now) I am a bit concerned over how quickly the changes have occurred

  • Hi Aumaau and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry your latest results have changed from low to high grade dyskaryosis and for the worry this is causing.

I hope this information Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust have about recurring cell changes will help put your mind at ease but if you'd like to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses about this then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable in this area and will be able to work through your concerns.

Some of our members have also contended with persistent cell changes so you're not alone and hopefully you'll get to hear about their experiences and receive some support and advice from them soon.

Wishing you all the best with your next colposcopy Aumaau.

    Kind regards,
