Ongoing Symptoms

Just after some advice.

I had (according to my doctor) viral laryngitis about 3 weeks ago. Obviously that lasted around 3 weeks and the majority of the (usual) problems seemed to go in that time. But it's now been over 4 weeks and I'm still getting the odd scratchy/dry sensation at the back of my throat and the other day I woke up with a croaky voice (which did go during the day). Not really had these issues before other than a once-in-a-blue moon type thing. So is this normal or should I get checked?

  • Hello Jeremy85,

Given that you are experiencing ongoing symptoms and you are still a bit worried about it all, it wouldn't hurt to go back to your doctor and mentioning that you are getting this odd sensation at the back of your throat. You could also seek a second opinion if you would like to be seen by a different doctor. You can find out more about getting a second opinion on this page. There is definitely no harm in getting checked again 4 weeks on to make sure everything is ok.

I hope your appointment goes well and you get the reassurance you need about this soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for the reply. I probably will go back to the doctor but wouldn't mind some insight from people here in the meantime if anyone can help. I'm a very anxious person generally so I'm not sure what could be genuine or just me worrying making things worse (reading things online). At this point I've kinda convinced myself of the worst which probably doesn't help.

The symptoms seem to change and aren't 24/7. Sometimes I get the dry scratchy sensation at the back of my throat. Sometimes it's a dull ache or strained sensation around my Adams apple or  just above, under my jaw. Sometimes it's a lump in the throat sensation (but I've suffered from that in the past admittedly).

But nothing is swollen, no visible lumps. I don't have a sore throat. I can swallow ok. No cough. I was wondering if it could be this 'super cold' that's going around? Or could a viral infection just be lingering?

    Any help or insight appreciated

  • Waiting on appointment but I'm still getting a dry scratchy/lump in throat sensation (at the back). Tongue also feels dry and fuzzy. Plus I get the occasional ache around the Adams apple area.

I know this all could be anxiety but seeing as it all follows on from having a bad sore throat 5 weeks ago I'm still nervous/paranoid (which obviously could be the entire problem). Any opinions welcome and appreciated.
