MRI and worries

Hi,

sorry to all of you on this forum as we are all obviously here for a reason.

my mum went for a physio 3 weeks ago when the physio said he didn't like the looks of the lump on her shoulder so re-recorded her back to the dr who made an appointment for the following day for a CT scan.
the results have come back and a hard lump which needs further investigation. She has been sent today for an MRI on a 2WW appointment and she has been told she will get the results tomorrow. This seems really quick seeing as most MRI scans take 2 weeks to get back. I understand it is a rereferral but should we be more concerned with the urgency or is this normal. If anyone has been in a similar situation and has advice this would help also. I lost my Dad to undiagnosed Cancer in December and so much as I am keeping strong for my mum this is tough.

    Hi Kimba,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear that you lost you dad so recently and are now facing this with your mum. Please don't worry about the speed that she will get her results. Most hospitals have to wait for a radiologist to read a MRI before they can diisclose the results, byt some hospitals have a radiologist in the department on a permanent basis. I suspect that this is why you are going to hear so quickly. Look on this as a good thing, as waiting for results is an agonising time.

I do hope that nothing untoward is found and whatever she has can be easily dealt with.

Please keep in touch and let us know how she gets on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Kimba,

I hope all goes well for your Mum. It is a worrying time for you - but the medics involved are moving things swiftly for you, which is lots better than not knowing - believe me! I had to wait 6 weeks to get my first MRI results and they were not straight forward! The faster things are diagnosed , the faster something can be done to treat it. I wish you both all the best luck you can have.
