Worried I have a brain tumour or Lymphoma

Hello.

About 2 months ago I had a bad headache. Then a week after I found a lump on each side on my neck about the size of a bean. I can move them but they're right under my jaw.

I went to the GP and was told the first time they were cysts and the second time they werent anything they were just deep lymph nodes that are a normal size.

The lumps have not reduced in size since.

Fast forward a bit and for the past 3 weeks I've been getting...

- Itchy skin

- Heart palpitations

- Had one severe panic attack

- Random numbness or tingling in random places on my body

- Sometimes have short term memory problems. Where I have to stop and think for longer about something I was just going to do

- Off and on headaches that are usually at worst mild

- Some fatigue

- Neck is frequently stiff, aches and is sore. Clicks everytime I move it.

- Was having episodes of shortness of breath but that's now stopped

- Sometimes random stabbing pains for a few seconds. Happens anywhere on the body.

Ive had multiple ECGs and blood tests done which have all been fine. I also had a basic neurological exam done which was fine. When I had an eye test done, I had an MRI done on my eyes, the optometrist said nothing concerning on that either.

I'm just getting worried that all of these symptoms are pointing to something serious. But I keep telling myself it's all just down to anxiety. The problem is my GP won't refer me for a brain and neck scan, as they explained the symptoms I've exhibited aren't significant enough to warrant further testing.

Im at the point of paying for these scans privately but all the doctors and nurses I have seen tell me not to waste my money as I'm fine and all of this is just anxiety.

Ive had nothing significant happen that could have triggered this anxiety if that's what it is.

I guess I'm just wanting answers on what is causing all of this and if anything else has had a similar symptoms before!

I think it's just the low survival rate on some types of brain tumours that scares me the most. I'm only 25 but I know cancer can effect anyone of any age.

Thanks

  • Hi,

From what your symptoms are, they sound a lot like anxiety and even health anxiety. Especially since you've mentioned some of your symptoms are off and on and mild in nature. Heavy breathing, palpitations and random pains are very common with health anxiety, and I suffer from the exact same issues myself. With that anxiety you become more aware of your body, and especially your heart, which is most likely why feel you are having palpitations. If you've seen a number of different doctors, and had multiple checks done I wouldn't worry. Lymph nodes do come and go in size, and given it is flu season, and there are a lot of bugs going around I wouldn't be surprised if your body is just fighting off some mild infection.
